High UV Alert: SPF 50+ recommended from 1 PM-2 PM (UV Index 7)
Matagorda Beach offers a unique blend of natural beauty and a relaxed atmosphere. Situated at the mouth of the Colorado River, it boasts miles of shoreline where driving is permitted (with a permit) and abundant seashells and driftwood. While lacking extensive amenities, its clean sands and stunning sunsets are highlighted by many visitors. However, strong currents make swimming risky, and soft sand can pose challenges for vehicles without 4WD.
